MISSION

Explorer Post 916 is chartered by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and affiliated with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office. The Program is designed for teenagers and young adults, 14 to 21 years old, to explore the career of law enforcement. Members receive training in a variety topics including officer safety, report writing, handcuffing procedures, interviewing and note taking, traffic stops, and much more.

Embedded into the Program are the agency’s values and core philosophies: servant leadership and Intelligence-Led Policing (ILP). Explorers actively engage the community and provide volunteer service to various components of the agency and community events, such as fairs, parades, rodeos, and races.

WHEN AND WHERE?

Explorers meet every Tuesday night from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Safety Town complex, located at 15362 Alric Pottberg Rd, Shady Hills, FL 34610.

MEETING STRUCTURE

Each general meeting consists of three main components: (1) Field Training, (2) training instruction, (3) and training scenarios.

(1) The Explorer Field Training Program consists of four training phases which provides a foundation for newly accepted members.

(2) Post Training instruction and (3) scenarios range from several topics related to the law enforcement career. Training is managed and led by agency members who provide the instruction and coordinate scenario-based training for the Explorers to participate in. More information on the Field Training Program and Post Training are discussed in the “Training” page.

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP

General meetings are led by Explorer Command Staff members with supervision by the Senior Advisor and associate advisors. The program has a functional chain of command starting with the rank of Explorer, and continues with Field Training Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. Each rank is assigned new and different responsibilities which allow the Explorer to grow and build confidence. The Senior Advisor and Associate Advisors are certified deputies with the sheriff’s office. The Senior Advisor leads the program while Associate Advisors support Post functions, including training, administration, and detail management/community events. Many deputies volunteer their time to help train and mentor the Explorers.
